Brenda Lee makes history with the Christmas classic “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree”

You'll feel sentimental when you hear that this classic pays long overdue recognition to a beloved artist.

65 years after its initial release, “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree” has topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time, making 78-year-old Brenda Lee, the hit's original singer, one of the oldest artists to ever top the charts.

Lee was just 13 when she recorded the song, and it debuted in 1958 to modest success.

Since then, the tune has become a staple of the season and Lee's best known hit.

“I'm happy for everyone here who worked so hard to make this happen, because in today's world everything moves so fast and furious,” Lee told Billboard. “But I'll tell you this: My label has come to bat.”

In honor of the song's anniversary, Lee shot a new music video with guest appearances from country stars Tanya Tucker and Trisha Yearwood.

To keep up with the times, Lee recently joined TikTok.

“Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree” first entered the charts in 1960, peaking at number 64 on the Hot 100. The song made a comeback after it was featured in the 1990 Christmas movie “Home Alone.”

According to Billboard, Lee's hit isn't the only Christmas hit rocking the charts.

Also in the top 10 are “Jingle Bell Rock” by Bobby Helms, “Last Christmas” by Wham!, “A Holly Jolly Christmas” by Burl Ives and “It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” by Andy Williams.
