“This genre hits a nerve with me” (Exclusive)

The former “One Tree Hill” star will star alongside Christa Taylor Brown in Great American Family’s “Christmas on Windmill Way.”

It's starting to look like there will be plenty of Christmas movies – and everyone's favorite Christmas movie stars – this year.

Chad Michael Murray, for example, will be alongside Wynonna Earp Actress Christa Taylor Brown in the latest film for Great American Family, Christmas on Windmill WayPEOPLE can reveal exclusively. The film will premiere as part of the network's Great American Christmas event, which kicks off in October, and at least 21 new Christmas films will premiere throughout the season.

“Telling stories and entertaining people is what I love to do,” said the OneTreeHill The 41-year-old alumnus tells PEOPLE: “This genre strikes a chord with so many people at such a momentous time of year. Bringing light and love through the story we tell feels like the icing on the cake. Or, to put it cheesily, it's like putting snow on Christmas.”

The film follows Mia Meijer (Brown) as she prepares for the Dutch baking competition at the Christmas market, suspecting that her grandmother Ann will take home the coveted golden rolling pin thanks to her kerststol, a traditional Dutch Christmas bread with fruit. But Mia's world is turned upside down when she learns that Ann has been having financial problems and has had to sell the deed to the Windmill Way property that has belonged to her family for generations.

To make matters worse, the buyer is Mia's former boyfriend, real estate developer Brady Schaltz (Murray), who must inform Mia and Ann that the historic Dutch sawmill owned by the Meijer family, known for its fine carpentry and beautiful wooden furniture for 90 years, is to be demolished to make way for a luxury resort.

“Making Christmas movies is like creating magic. I'm so grateful to have been a part of it,” Brown tells PEOPLE. “Working with Chad has been a true gem and we're so excited to share our magic of Christmas on Windmill Way with you all!”

“We all love the holiday season. We all love these movies,” Murray said in a panel moderated by PEOPLE at Christmas Con New Jersey last December. “I'll keep doing them as long as I can.”
