Arkansas football's Monte Harrison jokes about age on social media

If you were surprised when former Major League Baseball player Monte Harrison chose Sam Pittman and the Arkansas football team, you weren't the only one.

After all, Harrison, who joins the Razorbacks squad as a walk-on wide receiver, is 28 years old.

On Friday, Arkansas' newest wide receiver had a few words for those who doubted he would become a college football player at this point in his career. He posted a short teaser video for an interview with Hogs+, Arkansas' official streaming and content network, on X (formerly known as Twitter):

“What's up, guys? My name is Monte Harrison. Wide receiver, former MLB outfielder. First of all, I want to say I'm so excited to be coming to Fayetteville and Arkansas,” Harrison said. “Down here with (Hogs+ host) Tera (Talmadge) and some of the Hogs+ film crew.”

“I'm ready to go. But I'd like to say one thing: don't call me old. I'm just a little bit mature for my age, that's all.”

According to Talmadge, the interview with Harrison will be published at a later date.

Harrison, who was rated a three-star recruit in 2014 according to his 247Sports Composite rankings, did not play college football after high school despite committing to play at Nebraska. Instead, he was selected in the second round of the MLB Draft that year by the Milwaukee Brewers. He made his MLB debut in 2020 with the Miami Marlins, as he was included in the Christian Yelich trade that brought Yelich to the Brewers in 2018.

After two seasons with the Marlins, Harrison signed with the Los Angeles Angels in 2022. He only played in nine games for the Angels this season, where he posted a .182 batting average with one home run and three RBIs. Last season, he played in the Brewers' minor league organization, but did not advance beyond Triple-A Nashville.
