Leak suggests Samsung will use a square design for the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra to compete with the Apple Watch Ultra

While we've been getting distorted details about what the next Galaxy watches will look like, the latest leaks highlight some interesting design choices for the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra. Previous reports shared their expectations that the Galaxy Watch 7 will have a similar look to the Apple Watch and aim for a square design. Now, with the new reports emerging that confirm the previous speculations and add more exciting information, it seems like the company is determined to make some major changes to the design of the upcoming wearable series.

Samsung takes inspiration from the Apple Watch and will opt for a similar square design for the upcoming Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra

According to the renders of the Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra shared by SmartPrix, the images released show a peculiar look that combines the typical classic round design of the display with a square frame for the outer part. We are not sure what this design would be called, but for now, we assume that the Ultra model version will feature both the timeless and the new.

This new display choice makes the wearable's design distinctive, but at the same time, Samsung seems to be avoiding risks by playing it safe and opting for a rounded shape for the main image to still be aesthetically pleasing to its loyal clientele. Compared to the Apple Watch, the design seems less well-defined, but that could be intentional.

This isn't the first time Samsung has gone with a square design on its wearables. It's been a while since Samsung's Gear series had a square look, leaning more towards rectangles. It also released the first series of Android smartwatches with a square display. It seems that they moved away from this shape to stand out from the competition, and the square design eventually became the trademark of the Apple Watch.

Not only will the design of the smartwatch range be improved, but several other major changes are also expected to come with the series, including a third additional button and larger dimensions. The third button is said to be rounded and placed between the two classic buttons. There is limited information about the functionality of the additional button, but there are also rumors that the button will be used for Galaxy AI. The Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra could adopt the functionality of the Apple Watch Ultra with a shortcut button, which could prove beneficial if properly linked to the features.
