Blurry videos on LinkedIn cannot be corrected

There are common glitches with macOS versions prior to Ventura, and one of them is not being able to fix blurry videos on LinkedIn. Since the problem isn't entirely on your end, it's a bit of a hassle to fix, but you don't necessarily need to call a repair service (or even invest in an expensive webcam) just yet.

There are several software and hardware troubleshooting steps available. I'll explain why the problem exists and what you can do to solve it.

Why are my videos blurry on LinkedIn?

The blurry videos you see are usually due to issues with Apple and LinkedIn. Since this is more common on older macOS systems, check to see if your software is out of date. While Apple intermittently releases updates for older devices, performance issues on unsupported Mac models are inevitable.

Is it possible to fix this problem?

1. Use a different browser

NOTE

Personally, I would recommend Google Chrome as I think it performs better than Firefox and Microsoft Edge even on older Mac models.

Needed time: 2 minutes

You may notice that this happens mostly on Safari. Other browsers like Chrome or Firefox are usually unaffected. This suggests that the problem may lie in how the platform handles certain video formats. To download a third-party browser (such as Chrome) on your Mac, follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Google Chrome website.
  2. On the home page, select Download here.

  3. Wait for Google Chrome to download and customize the app to your liking, then log in to your LinkedIn account and check if you can now see videos clearly.

2. Wait for LinkedIn to resolve the issue

LinkedIn has acknowledged the issue and said it is working on a fix, so if changing your web browser didn't work, you may want to wait until LinkedIn fixes the problem.

It's worth noting, however, that LinkedIn hasn't said how long it will take to resolve the issue. In the meantime, I recommend using the app on your smartphone or tablet. As long as you have the latest software installed, you shouldn't have any problems watching videos.

3. Update macOS

Since the issue mostly affects older devices, it's a good idea to upgrade to a newer version of macOS – if your Mac allows it. You can even upgrade to macOS Monterey and avoid Ventura if you want.

I will show how to update macOS on older computers, as this issue doesn't really occur on newer computers. If you have Ventura or higher, go to System Settings > General instead of “System Preferences”. The rest of the steps are the same.

  1. Choose Apple menu icon and choose System settings. Select System Preferences on a MacSelect System Preferences on a Mac
  2. Choose Software update. Software update option on old MacsSoftware update option on old Macs
  3. If an update is available, click Upgrade now and agree to Apple's license agreement. Updating macOS on an older MacUpdating macOS on an older Mac
  4. Wait for your macOS software to download.

If you've decided to upgrade your software, you have more choice in choosing the version of macOS than you might think. Read this separate guide to reinstall the version of macOS you actually want.

The blurry video issue on LinkedIn is pretty annoying, but there's not much you can do about it on older devices. I would recommend updating your software if possible. Although it's less convenient, you can try using a different browser. Unfortunately, those are your only two options until LinkedIn and Apple's technical teams find the cause and solution.
