Authorities have charged a Detroit man with shooting one man and wounding four others, including a Macomb County woman who died in Detroit earlier this week.

According to Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy, 47-year-old Charles Deandre Carter was arraigned Wednesday on second-degree murder and other offenses before 36th District Court Judge Laura Echartee.

Carter is accused of shooting 46-year-old Luzell Etheridge of Detroit, who died at the scene. He is also accused of shooting a 49-year-old woman from Eastpointe, a 31-year-old man from Southfield, and a 56-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, both from Detroit.

The public prosecutor's office said there was a verbal argument between the suspect and several people early Monday morning.

“Carter drew and fired a pistol several times, fatally wounding Mr. Etheridge and non-fatally wounding the four remaining victims,” prosecutors said in a press release.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m. when Detroit police officers were called to a reported shooting at a residence in the 17000 block of Ohio Street, in the area of W. McNichols Road and Wyoming Avenue.

When police arrived, they found Etheridge lying dead on the sidewalk in front of his home with a gunshot wound to the chest. The non-fatal victims were privately transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.

The names of the other victims were not released.

In addition to the murder, Carter was charged with four counts of assault with intent to murder and five counts of illegal use of a firearm.

He is being held in the Wayne County Jail.

A probable cause conference is scheduled for May 29 and a preliminary examination before Judge Kenneth King is scheduled for June 4.
