Brutal weather revealed on Christmas Day

Many Australians will have a wet and rainy Christmas this year, with stormier weather forecast.

Instead of a holiday filled with beaches, barbecues and beer, you may need to break out the card games and hot chocolate this holiday season as cooler temperatures prevail in most parts of the country.

More rain, large hailstones and destructive winds are expected to hit the country. most of Eastern Australia.

Sky News meteorologist Rob Sharpe said Australians could expect rainfall of 50 to 100 millimetres in their eastern areas.

“South East Queensland will be wet on Friday, easing on Saturday before warming up again on Sunday until Christmas Eve,” he said

Showers and thunderstorms are expected in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales on Thursday, but Sydney residents can expect the rain to ease later in the day.

“Over the Christmas long weekend, showers and thunderstorms will be concentrated in NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory,” Mr Sharpe said.

“The potential exists for most of our major capital cities, with Brisbane and Sydney likely to be the wettest.”

Christmas around the capitals

Before you cancel your Christmas outdoor plans, meteorologists recommend checking the weather just before the day, as things can change.

The Bureau of Meteorology predicts temperatures in Sydney on Christmas Day will be just above -5 degrees. It will be cloudy with a high chance of rain.

In Brisbane, temperatures are just above 0 degrees; however, like in Sydney, the weather forecast predicts cloudy weather with a high probability of rain and some thunderstorms.

In our capital Canberra it can rain with temperatures between -5 and -6 degrees.

Sydney is followed by Melbourne with a chance of rain on this day and maximum temperatures of 21 °C.

Hobart is expected to have highs of 18°C, cloudy weather and the chance of showers.

Adelaide is forecast to have a partly cloudy day with highs of 24°C, while in Perth temperatures are heading towards highs of 32°C under partly cloudy skies..

According to the Darwin weather forecast, temperatures of between -3 and -4 degrees are expected on Christmas Day, with the possibility of showers and storms. However, this could change depending on the former tropical cyclone Jasper.
