OSU's half of the second inning ended when, after a conference of umpires, a call was incorrectly overturned. Lane Forsythe deflected a pitch that would have been the third strike had the catcher caught it.

But the ball clearly hit the dirt before bouncing into his glove. The home plate umpire initially made the correct call, but after Texas Tech disputed the call, the umpires gathered and reversed the ruling. The play could not be reviewed by video, so the inning ended with OSU still leading 2-0.

OSU took a 2-0 lead over Texas Tech on a two-run home run by Zach Ehrhard, right after Carson Benge put a double into the left-center field gap.

Aidan Meola also hit a double into right field, but remained in second place.

OSU coach Josh Holliday left his two best starting pitchers on the bench for the Cowboys' opening game in the Big 12 tournament, opting instead to go with Carson Benge, who has established himself as a strong third starter over the past month.

Benge, the usual right fielder, remains in the lineup and bats second. He allowed a harmless single in the first inning and struck out two.
