The Street Fighter movie promotional poster reveals the official logo

Will the live-action Street Fighter film work the third time around?

A third attempt at a live-action street fighter film is hitting theaters, and while details about the film are still slim, it seems like things are slowly moving forward. At the Las Vegas Licensing Expo, Legendary Pictures revealed the first logo for the film, shared exclusively by Collider. The logo appears on a promotional poster and closely resembles the classic logo that Capcom has long used. The promotional poster also features the logo in front of a brick wall, reminiscent of the old Street Fighter GI Joe toy commercials from the 90s (see 1:16 scale marking).

Two strikes for Street Fighter Films

Street Fighter's return to the big screen comes at a time when there seems to be a gold rush for video game adaptations in Hollywood. After the success of adaptations like The Super Mario Bros. movie, Sonic the Hedgehogand Legendary's Pokémon: Detective Pikachu, studios are looking for the next big game to bring to the big screen. Street Fighter seems like a logical choice considering the video game series has enjoyed huge success since the first game was released in 1987.

Unfortunately, none of the franchise's successes have been seen on the big screen. 1994 a live action Street fighter was released with Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile. The film was both a critical and commercial failure, but has acquired something of a cult following in recent years. The fighting game series got a second chance on the big screen in 2009 Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. The 20th Century Fox film starring Kristin Kreuk was possibly an even bigger bomb than its predecessor.

What we know about Legendaries Street fighter

At this point, we still don't know much about this setting Street fighterincluding the actors who will star in the film and Capcom's iconic characters. Over the course of nearly four decades, the Street Fighter series has produced a number of beloved characters, from heroes like Ryu, Guile, and Chun-Li to villains like M. Bison and the hugely popular Akuma.

Actually doing the Capcom games justice has been a big challenge for previous directors, but for Legendary's Street fighter already has a pair of talented directors on board: Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou. The twin brothers directed the 2022 horror film Talk to me, which won several awards and also had great success at the box office. Hopefully the third time will prove to be the charm for Street Fighter!
