Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis will decorate Carole Middleton's Christmas tree

From House Beautiful

Carole Middleton, Kate Middleton's mother, has been known to let her grandchildren decorate her own little tree for Christmas – but this year things will look a little different.

Carole, the longtime owner of Party Pieces, a party supply company, took to social media to talk about her plans for this Christmas. “We may not be able to get together, but after a year like 2020, we need to remember what's really important this Christmas,” she wrote in a caption on Party Pieces' Instagram. “It's really important to me that my family feels connected. I usually have my grandchildren help me decorate the tree. This year, I'm going to ask them via video call to decide which decorations should go where. It might need to be tastefully rearranged later…!”

The Middleton matriarch first revealed this tradition in 2018 when she told the telegraph that she puts an extra tree in her grandchildren’s room “so they can decorate it themselves.” (She also revealed that for Christmas she wants to serve “two options – very traditional and something vegan” for dinner and “champagne and smoked salmon” for lunch, and that her main holiday dishes include mulled wine and mince pies.)

Prince William and Kate generally spend the holidays alternately with the royals at Sandringham and at Middleton's house. Last year, during a winter at Sandringham, Prince George and Princess Charlotte took part in a famous royal Christmas tradition for the first time: attending Christmas services at St. Mary Magdalene's Church on the Sandringham estate and greeting royal fans gathered outside.
