“The Garfield Movie” is another animated success for Sony

Share this:

Like many of you, I have fond memories of it Garfield From my childhood. The local newspaper, a weekly news and entertainment source in the Kitson household, would arrive on our doorstep, sparking friendly competition between my siblings and I for first dibs on the funny pages. Among the classic characters, the grumpy but lovable cat who loves lasagna always managed to put a smile on my face. Garfield also had a long-running animated television series, Garfield and friends, which we also watched, and it was one of the few times we kids didn't fight. When then The Garfield movie was announced, I was ready for the latest adventure with one of Jim Davis' most famous characters.

The Garfield movie is led by Mark Dindalwho has worked on the animation of some Disney classics such as: The Fox and the Hound, The black cauldron, The great mouse detectiveAnd The little mermaid. Dindal He later directed films such as: The Emperor's New School And Chicken smallfor both Disney and. Paul A. Kaplan, Mark TorgoveAnd David Reynolds All contributed to the script for this new film from Sony Pictures.

Chris Prattwhich dominated the box office in another small animated film, The Super Mario Bros. movieis the voice of the sarcastic tabby and is accompanied by Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving RhamesAnd Nicholas Hoult. Should The Garfield movie Is it on your to-watch list this Memorial Day weekend? Absolutely!

[Warning: light spoilers from this film are below!]

Garfield gets drawn into someone else's problem In The Garfield movie

Despite his tragic beginnings, Garfield (Pratt) has built a pretty good life for himself. Abandoned by his father, Vic, a stocky street cat, voiced by Samuel L. JacksonGarfield stumbles upon Jon Arbuckle (Nicholas Hoult) at an Italian restaurant, and the two become inseparable. There are no boundaries between Jon and his animals as he also has an energetic beagle, Odie (Harvey Guillen) and gave them pretty much everything they could ever need.

Spoiled comes to mind, and Garfield is fully aware of it. Thousands of dollars are spent every month on takeout food, comfortable chairs with big speakers, and the softest beds for him and his teddy bear to sleep in. What more does he want?

But then Garfield and Odie are suddenly torn from their pampered lives and thrust into the seedy underbelly of the animal kingdom! Kidnapped by the villain Jinx (Hannah Waddingham), a Persian cat who knows how to hold a grudge, these two friends are reunited with Garfield's father.

All three must team up in what is probably the craziest heist in the history of animated films, finding new allies and even more hexes along the way. Can Garfield and Odie help Vic and return home before dinner? Or will these two lovable pets become cat food for the evil and vengeful Jinx? Like a real animated film, The Garfield movie is well connected and brings with it some touching moments that will move parents and caregivers of all kinds to tears and make them want to hug their loved ones a little tighter.

Chris Pratt shines as Garfield

I know the current trend is towards hate Chris Pratt For reasons we don't need to discuss in this review. That being said, there is no denying the box office success he seems to be having in some of his recent film series. Just last summer it dominated the box office The Super Mario Bros. movie, with the film grossing nearly $1.4 billion. He was also one of the main stars of The Guardians of the Galaxy franchise for Marvel Studios, with the third film being one of the best from the latest phase of the MCU. Even the youngest ones Jurassic world Trilogy did pretty well with him in the spotlight Bryce Dallas Howardwhich makes the studio billions.

It makes sense that so many films want the actor in their films Pratt seems to attract the audience. Luckily, he also plays a great role as Garfield in this film, providing plenty of laughs for audiences of all ages. I find Chris Pratt is better suited to this role than Mario, as Garfield is more of a character than the plumber. He embodies the role more as a cat, playing funny, sarcastic or endearing depending on what the scene calls for, similar to his time as Star-Lord or Andy from Parks and Rec.

When Pratt's When Garfield was first announced, I was skeptical. I wasn't sure if he could be such an icon Bill Murray from the films of the early 2000s, but Pratt makes this character iteration special. It's not the same Garfield we know, but he has the same feel and largely the same attitude. He's softer without being a complete softie.

It has everything I loved about the comics and cartoons, but I don't feel like this franchise is on the same path as it has been for the last 20 years. Pratt is great in the role and I hope so The Garfield movie is successful so we can have more films from this franchise.

A heartfelt story in this animated family film has something for adults too

As with so many animated films aimed at children, The Garfield movie has a plot that could fly over their heads. Part of the film focuses on what it means to love and care for someone, which doesn't always mean being in that person's life. I'm sure parents everywhere can understand this. Sometimes it's not always easy to make the best decision for our children. Love comes with heartbreak, that is the message at the center The Garfield movie.

Even though I'm not a parent, I could relate to the message and was deeply touched by the story The Garfield movie told. I really didn't expect something like that from a film about a cheeky, fat cat. Sony has done their best with this film, giving both adults and children something to enjoy. Humor, heart and a beloved character. What more could you want from a film like this?

The Garfield movie is the perfect movie to watch with your family this Memorial Weekend

My family has a tradition of watching a movie on the long holiday weekend to beat the heat for a while. This year, The Garfield movie would be the kind of film we want to see because it has something for everyone. The reception of the film in our cinema was positive, with most people in attendance roaring with laughter from start to finish. Kids enjoyed the silly antics of the animated animals, while the deeper story appealed to the adults around me.

That's my only criticism of the film Harvey Guillen felt underutilized for his talent since Odie doesn't say much other than barking and whining. But I and the audience around me enjoyed most of the film, and Sony has another line up of excellent animated films.
