LONGWOOD, Fla. – Lenoir-Rhynes softball is still underway.

The Bears survived a regional game with Lander and Wingate, defeating Lander once and Wingate two of three.

They then won the Super Regional by taking two of three games at North Georgia.

The Bears won 50 games for the third time in school history.

Now the Bears (50-16) will become the first SAC softball team to compete in the Division II championships.

The Bears play Auburn Montgomery on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Longwood, Florida. It is an eight-team tournament with a double-elimination format.

Abbey Nixon (Carson) plays an important role for the Bears.

Nixon, the 2021 Rowan County Co-Player of the Year when she batted .528 as a junior, had to make two comebacks.

In high school, she tore her ACL. Then, early in her career at LR, she broke her arm when she was hit by bad luck and missed a season.

Now she is the Bears' left fielder. She hit her first collegiate home run this season, but is usually the flex player and is not in the batting order.
